Polvoron is another Goldilocks best seller which is a mixture
of flour and powdered milk. My kids enjoy it as one of pasalubong. Others even
used this as props for the Polvoron whistling game in a party.
Polvoron
About two weeks ago, my friend Rose asked me if I know how
to make Polvoron. I remember one of my side lines in high school was to sell
Polvoron to my classmates. One of my cousins used to prepare and asked me to
sell to my friends. There were some times that I help her prepare too so we can
produce more. Then obviously I stopped selling J
So back to Rose, she told me it will be used for one of the
games. Since after several years, this is my chance again to prepare, I recalled
the taste I’ve always enjoyed and search the net for the recipe. There are
different combinations available online but this is the texture I want, that
you may also want to taste.
What you need:
mixing bowl
crepe paper (plastic wrapper or Japanese paper are not available here)
molder
strainer
whisk
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup powdered milk
- 1 cup sugar
- ¾ cups butter
- Any flavor of your choice (1 cup
of either peanut, oreo biscuit, or cashew)
Procedure:
-
On a pan, toast all purpose flour until golden
brown
- Remove from heat, cool down for some minutes
- Melt the butter, use the oven if needed
- At this point, make sure that you will use a
strainer to all the powdered ingredients before you put and combine them in the
mixing bowl. This will help break the lumps and will make your Polvoron’s
texture really fine.
- Put the toasted flour to the mixing bowl
- Add powdered milk and sugar
- Using a whisk, stir well the powdered
ingredients until fully combined
- You may add your desired flavors at this point
- Pour in the melted butter
- At this point, use your hand to mix thoroughly
- Set aside for 10 minutes so the butter will be
absorbed by the powdered ingredients
- Using the molder, press and hold the Polvoron
mixture until it is well compressed
- Release it on crepe paper (or Japanese paper or
plastic wrapper)
- Wrap like a candy
- Repeat molding and wrapping until you finished
all
- Enjoy eating :)
